TRACKS ON REPEAT: ALL THE WAY FROM ATLANTA

charley crockett dropped the man from waco on friday and i swear that the album was on repeat all weekend. there’s a lot that makes this dude cool, aside from his distant relationship to davy crockett & his love for mid-century album art. he’s got an absolutely distinct baritone voice which is COMPLEMENTED by his acoustics— he’s like a direct homage to western and country artists of the 50s and 60s like eddy arnold and MERLE haggard.

there’s something to be said for assessing lyrics the same way one would assess a film or a piece of visual art— this is one of those tracks that i’ve torn apart each line, trying harder and harder to understand the exact story behind it. my conclusion is that all the way from atlanta paints intense visuals of one’s journey across the country in pursuit of lost love— but he never seems to find it.

I thought I saw her as I passed Gallup
Standing outside the El Rancho
But I was mistaken
My imagination was just playin’ tricks on me
