The Siege of Stalingrad (august 23rd 1942 - february 2nd 1943) ended with more russian deaths than the us and britain sustained in all of wwii. standing as one of the bloodiest battles in recorded history, it ended with roughly 2 million casualties. the axis powers fought for control of the city as it served as a major transport & industrial hub on the volga river. between the close-quarters combat & the coordinated assaults on civilians via air raid, it holds up as one of the most brutal events in the history of warfare.
