D. Day
this blog often covers war heroes, sometimes multiple times a week. i read & share stories about war because there is nobody we owe more to than those who have secured, sacrificed, and defended freedom for generations that have not yet been born.
today, We are merely shadows of the men who came before us— the greatest generation was built different. they didn’t focus on rights and freedoms, they took on INDIVIDUAL responsibility which in turn, GUARANTEED those very rights and freedoms for all. that process of thought is getting more and more rare to find.
77 years ago, yesterday, one of the most complex & momentum CHANGING military battles took place. 5,333 ships with a total of 175,000 men made up the first waves of the assault on normandy. 850,000 german troops would be waiting behind cliffs & fortifications on 5 beaches in france. 22,119 allied troops perished in the first week of the operation— most of them under the age of 25.
thinking about the character & willpower of these men leaves you in awe— as each anniversary of d-day passes, as the greatest generation passes on, we should all be reminded of the sacrifices they made to fight pure evil— here’s to them.
