THE ROAD TO SD: DAY 4

we got in late a couple nights ago, which is why the day 4 recap was delayed— we ended up driving straight from rifle, colorado all the way to san diego with a quick pit-stop in las vegas— something i’ve realized on this trip is that there is something intrinsic about the correlation between the united states interstate system and the american identity. it represents something more than true freedom but i can’t quite put my finger on it— there is no where else in the entire world with such vast landscapes that are endlessly changing & so incredibly beautiful. sure, there are other parts of the world with rich history & infrastructure that is centuries old, but the united states has land that’s been untouched & dominated by nature for hundreds, if not thousands of years. for my entire life, i’ve longed for a road trip to explore the endless corners & pockets of this country, and the four days it took to get out here has reminded me that i should do it sooner, rather than later— with that being said, a solo trip is coming in the near future.

we drove through the california desert after getting past the hellscape that was the city of las vegas (although the mountains in the distance were pretty damn beautiful) and we hit some gnarly thunderstorms & traffic as soon as we crossed the border from nevada— one more stop for food & gas and we cruised down interstate 15, pulling into our hotel around 1 am, officially finishing the trek we set out on last week. the change of scenery from the southwest was nice, but i sure as hell wouldn’t mind taking interstate 40 back— we’ll see what happens.
