fast philosophy: friedrich nietzsche & the idea of the superman
freidrich nietzche is the one who made the claim that god is dead & we had killed him— because of this, he was often mistaken as a nihilist. the catch is that nihilism wasn’t his conclusion, but it was his starting point. nietzche’s intention was not to lead us to the idea that nothing matters, but rather rescue us from it. when making the claim that god was dead, he drew our attention to a man-made crisis. he concluded that so much time had passed since the enlightenment that we were unable to find value in what seemed like a dated system, embedded in what i believe was mistaken as religious superstition.
nietzche believed you didn’t necessarily need to find value in god, but that you could find that value within a genuinely free being, who chooses what matters & lives as they wish— my belief is that you can find this within yourself.
most conclude that the superman is an appealing belief— a concentration on ego & a focus on ones own agenda. these ideas had been mistranslated & appropriated by the nazis. the hijacking of his philosophies would have infuriated him as he had choice words for german nationalists, specifically.
we’ve drifted further & further from the ideas of formal religion, neitzche fills that void by empowering the individual to tackle life by the horns.
