On August 19th, 1812 the USS Constitution and HMS Guerriere clashed on the open waters outside of Nova Scotia. After a devastating broadside from the Constitution, the Guerriere returned fire. the british crew looked on in horror as the cannon balls of the Guerriere just bounced off the side of the Constitution. the bizarre sight earned the USS Constitution the nickname "Old Ironside." operating out of boston, she is the oldest serving war vessel in the united states navy.
