MONDAY CARTOONS: THE BIRTH OF ASTRO BOY!

over the weekend, i was watching jbp’s analysis of pinocchio & his famous idea that you must save your father from from the belly of the beast— the shorthand of the concept goes something like “culture is your father who has given you everything, it’s your duty to preserve it.” reality is constantly changing, and culture cannot keep up with the demands of reality. us, the living consciousness, must bear the RESPONSIBILITY to partake in culture, to REVITALIZE the ever-changing environment, to keep the ship sailing straight as to not run amok. we first begin to do that by looking to our fathers for guidance— learning what they learned from their fathers, and so on and so forth.

aim for the highest good you can possibly conceive, and then work to exceed it. hand that knowledge you obtain down to your sons, and the living spirit of your ancestors will continue to live on— that embodied good will spread throughout culture, eventually ridding the outdated, ineffective structures without the need for an authoritarian force to attempt (and ultimately fail) to do it for us.

the astro boy story is a similar concept with the reverse story of pinocchio— it’s the tale about a father who loses his son, replacing him with a futuristic robotic son who adapts to the culture, all while SIMULTANEOUSLY attempting to understand human emotions & human CONSCIOUSNESS— and to be honest, i don’t think we’re all too far off from the NECESSITY of constructing RELATIONSHIPS between man and machine.

it’s one of my favorites!

p.s.— speaking of father’s, mine is the coolest out there— he’s always got some fun stuff running on his blog over here.
