EDC: TIMEX WEEKENDER WATCH

EDCtimex.jpg

I’ve always been fond of watches— I really began to wear them daily during my junior year of high school, and I’ve very rarely been without one since. The first watch I remember wearing was fairly bulky, the case was thick, the band was dark leather as was the watch face— it had no contrast. If I find any photos of myself with that thing visible, I’ll be sure to destroy the evidence that I ever wore it.

I quickly became hyper aware of watches people were wearing— It became evident to me that the trend of gigantic watches was one we could have done without— If you need a way to separate the boys from the men, examine their watch face. If the case is more than half the width of their wrist, you don’t trust em. The exception to this is smart watches— all bets are off on those Dick Tracy devices.

Anyways, I’ve primarily owned Skagen’s & Timex’s and I love them both. Skagen was one of the first watch makers I know of that designed the metal mesh band & got the snap right. I haven’t worn my Skagen as it died right at the start of the pandemic— one day I’ll get the battery replaced. I’ve primarily been wearing my Timex Weekender & it’s quickly become my absolute favorite watch— not just in terms of comfort & ease, but also it’s history.

The look is simple, it’s also rugged. It’s an homage to the vintage military watches of the 20th century— which explains the 24-hour format on the dial. In addition to it’s indiglo back-light feature, It has a NATO strap that originated with the British army in the 1970s— I’ve read that cadets requested fabric straps for their watches because they were less sweaty than leather & steel.

It’s a real cool piece & you can score them real cheap— you can find them on Timex by clicking here.
