CHECK EM OUT! SUPER73
Joe Fish and I found ourselves in Rancho Cucamongo, CA camping out a few days before we were going to load in at San Diego Comic Con— the morning of, we realized we had only been an hour away from Irvine—the same vicinity as lithium cycles, an e-bike manufacturer that i’d been following since their founding. (I’d been dying to test ride one of their infamous Super73 motorbikes ever since their 2016 kickstarter exceeded its goal) so we decided to poke our heads in to ~hopefully~ fulfill my dream.
i will tell you what, it did not disappoint. I’ve ridden my fair share of two wheeled vehicles— I’m an avid lover of bicycles and motorcycles, i rode dirt bikes as a kid & i rode my fair share of mopeds. i’m not sure what it is, but three wheels or less and you have my full, undivided attention.
With that being said, riding a Super73 is unlike riding anything else you could you could think of— the frame is wider than a bicycle, but smaller than a motorcycle— the weight is balanced but not too heavy. in total, the bike only weighs about 70 lbs. the handlebars rise, you feel the instant torque put out by the electric motor— that outside force is what truly makes you feel so connected to the bike— you begin to pedal, and you’re suddenly jolted forward by an overwhelmingly confident amount of power— for a class 2 e-bike, you feel like you could take on anything off the beaten path. I wish there was a better way of explaining the sensation it gives you, but the only way to understand the true experience is to buy one yourself— they’re the OG electric motorbike that was heavily inspired by the mini-bike aesthetic of the 70s. they’re all the fun of a moped, minus the maintenance & mess. They start at around $1200 & go all the way up to about $3500, depending on the model— check them out at super73.com
