Buying a car blows.

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI STOCK INTERIOR PATTERN

well— i am finally going to do what i vowed i never would. i’m buying a new car. i know, i know. i’m sure i’ll hear a bunch of boos from the crowd, but that’s okay with me. i can handle it.

for those of you new here, i drive a 1999 jeep cherokee xj— it’s my second one. something about chryslers production of leftover amc parts made for a real solidly built rig. they saved me in the snow more times than i can remember, it turned heads, it buzzed down the road with the standard wobbling over 4o mph, but in exchange, you’d feel a sense of community when other xj’s on the road INITIATEd a wave and smile. the squared body, UTILITARIAN aesthetic makes it, in my opinion, one of the greatest looking cars ever made— and although a lot of guys love jeep wranglers, i think they only love them because they’ve never driven a cherokee. all old jeeps have a cult following, ask any guy who owns an amc jeep the difference between a cj7 & a yj, and you’ll regret not packing a lunch— it’ll take a while.

well— after a big repair quote on the 207k miles-old gal, i’ve decided to call it quits. i’m moving on— certainly not permanently, but temporarily. i’ve looked at kias, hyundais, volkswagens, toyotas— i’ve been all over the place and i’ll tell ya what kids— i understand the ease of purchasing a private party, used automobile. the stress of going through what feels like the equivalent of 4 doctors appointments in a day ain’t worth it— and that’s essentially what these car dealership visits are. you walk in, you go to the receptionist, they take down some of your info, they tell you to have a seat— a salesman approaches and you follow him to his desk. he doesn’t physically violate your space like a doctor would— but he mentally violates you with his wacky tactics he learned off his weekly microsoft powerpoint in the conference room— i’m no fool ahmad, i sold solar for two whole days.

i jest, of course. i am a fool, ahmad— but in the hierachy of fools, i sit below you.

with the recent boom of the used car market and the shortage of new cars, i’ve been having a hell of a time trying to find an automobile. a slightly used car at a kia dealership looked like a real promising deal, but it sold before i could get to it. after the test drive of a jetta (which i’ll write about later as a religious EXPERIENCE) a hyundai, and a toyota, i opted for waiting on a nice kia sedan to pop up on the market— one thing i observe about cars on the street are the wheels. aesthetics are much less important than price, but when it comes to steel wheels with hubcaps, you can count me out— bring me the alloy wheel selection, please.

fingers crossed one shows up to the dealership soon.
